Why ED PT Practice?

“The presence of therapists in the ED has absolutely changed my clinical practice and allowed me to deliver significantly better care to patients. By way of example, in many patients with atraumatic extremity pain, I used to order x-rays (even though I did not suspect bony injury) to make the patient feel like I was doing something. I knew I couldn’t actually make them feel better, so the x-rays were one way to intervene. Now, I can routinely skip imaging and know that one of the therapists will do a thorough evaluation and actually improve the patient’s outcome. Even better, if I have missed an injury that requires imaging, I can count on all of them to make skilled recommendations for further testing or treatment after their evaluation.” -Dr. Ben Easter, MD
